It’s a platform that some would argue that Rocket League is perfect for – and it seems that the developers agreed as Rocket League for Nintendo Switch was announced at E3 2017.
Here, we discuss when Rocket League is likely to be released for Nintendo Switch, along with unique gameplay features and the announcement trailer, which can be seen above.

During Nintendo’s rather short Rocket League E3 2017 trailer (which can be seen at the top of this article) , the company announced that Rocket League should make its way to the Nintendo Switch at the end of 2017, or by ‘Holiday 2017’ as it was stated in the trailer.
This makes sense for Nintendo – the Switch is due to perform extremely well this Christmas, especially with the likes of Nintendo Odyssey launching in October, and one of the biggest criticisms at launch was a lack of games. It’s not going to be a complaint for much longer though, if the E3 2017 announcement was anything to go by.
It’s already available to pre-order on Amazon at £49.99, already down from £69 and it’s worth noting that you’ll pay the price at launch, regardless of how much it cost when the pre-order was made.
Generally speaking, Rocket League for Nintendo Switch will be the exact same as the version available for PS4, Xbox One and PC, although there are a handful of exclusives coming to Nintendo’s handheld console.
Rockets League for Nintendo Switch wouldn’t be complete without some themed Battle-Cars. And so there will be Mario, Luigi and Metroid ones and probably more later. Mario and Luigi-themed car toppers will also be available.
The Super Mario Bros. vehicles will come with a special rocket boost called Super Star. Meanwhile, The Samus Gunship will come in two variations based on Samus’ Varia Suits has a boost called Wave Beam.
These will all be free unlockable cars at launch. Check the video below for a proper look at them in action.
There will be a number of Switch-exclusive items to customise your Rocket League car with, including the infamous Mario and Luigi caps. The trailer also teases exclusive cars on the Nintendo Switch and although no cars were showcased, we imagine that cars from the hugely popular Mario Kart will make an appearance at some point.
Nintendo has also confirmed that Rocket League for Nintendo Switch will offer cross-platform play, allowing you to play with those on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam but oddly not the PlayStation 4, as is the case with Minecraft. Sony claims it’s to do with protecting gamers, particularly children, to “external influences [Sony] have no ability to manage or look after”.
It might change in the future though, as PlayStation marketing head Jim Ryan stated that “it’s certainly not a profound philosophical stance we have against this” and that Sony is “always open to conversations with any developer or publisher who wants to talk about it”.
In addition to being able to play with your friends on Xbox One and PC, Nintendo has also confirmed that Nintendo Switch gamers will also be able to play with friends on the switch locally.
This is down to the introduction of a local Wi-Fi mode, allowing up to four friends to battle each other in the same room without the need for a connection to the internet.
