China is reeling from two earthquakes that struck in different parts of the country Wednesday, killing at least 19 people and injuring hundreds of others. The first quake struck in a sparsely populated area of far northwestern China near the Kazakhstan border. It had a magnitude of 6.3, according to the U. S. Geological Service, and damaged about 1,000 houses. The second quake struck about 1,360 miles away in Jiuzhaigou, near a national park popular with tourists.
