The upcoming Nokia 9 is the new Nokia Android phone we’ve been waiting for. Read the latest rumours on the Nokia 9 launch date, release date, UK price, features and specifications.
The Nokia 9 is thought to be an upgraded version of the Nokia 8 with a larger 5.7in 18:9 display and an extra 2GB of RAM. The most recent images show it in polished blue – and it’s gorgeous, looking just like the Galaxy S8 (see above).
With no announcement for the Nokia 9 at the company’s 16 August event, we’re still no clearer on when is the Nokia 9 will launch.
In the below leaked image it is shown next to the Nokia 2, which has recently passed through the FCC and may arrive on 5 October, although that’s by no means confirmed.
If it doesn’t come alongside the Nokia 2 it could mean we are waiting until the end of February for a MWC 2018 launch, which could be the case given that there aren’t that many Nokia 9 leaks about.
We’ll update this article when we know more.
The new Nokia 9 is thought to be priced at around $800 or £634 with 128GB of storage, and $950 or £753 with 256GB.
Many of the specifications for the now confirmed Nokia 8 and rumoured Nokia 9 are similar, but the Nokia 9 is thought to be larger and to feature a higher screen-to-body ratio. While the 5.3in Nokia 8 has a 16:9 panel, the 5.7in Nokia 9 could see a 18:9 virtually full-screen display, putting it in line with the Galaxy S8 and LG G6.
Or, at least, so we thought. The latest leaked image (via Baidu) suggests it remains a 16:9 display:
Both will be Quad-HD displays with protective Gorilla Glass 5, though recently leaked images suggest the Nokia 9 will also have glass at the rear.
It’s worth pointing out that this Slashleaks leak has only a 50 percent trust rating, however:
The Nokia 9 may additionally feature an iris scanner, and is said to have an extra 2GB of RAM over the Nokia 8. It may also come with 128GB storage as standard.
The camera is now known to be a key selling point for the upcoming smartphone, with HMD Global confirming that Nokia’s collaboration with Zeiss optics is back on. Zeiss is reportedly “rekindling its commitment to set new imaging standards for Nokia customers”.
We should see a dual-camera – potentially 13Mp with separate RGB and monochrome sensors. A 13Mp selfie camera may also be found at the front.
This is the setup seen in the now confirmed Nokia 8, which also boasts Bothie photos – snaps that combine images from the front- and rear cameras to create a fuller picture.
Also new in the Nokia 8 is 360-degree Ozo audio recording, which we’re sure will also make its way to the Nokia 9.
The Nokia 9 is thought to be the flagship in Nokia’s Android phone family, and as such will likely run the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with Adreno 540 GPU, plus 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
It will likely feature IP54 waterproofing, as well as a fingerprint scanner, the aforementioned iris scanner, and a 3,500- to 3,800mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 support.
Apart from the fact Nokia used to be one of the biggest brands in the mobile market (Nokia was the Apple of the early 21st century), Nokia Android phones are interesting because they are said to be different to rival Android phones in three main ways:
• Through Nokia’s relentless focus on the everyday experience, whether that is seen in the display or the camera
• Through its premium design and build quality that is present no matter where in the line-up a model sits
• Through its use of the purest version of Android you have seen, with monthly security updates, fast Android platform updates and the implementation of the Google Assistant across the range
