Next year’s Apple iPad will be highly inspired from the iPhone X. – 2018 iPad to boast all-screen design, Apple iPhone X-like Face ID feature
Does the overall look and feel of the new Apple iPhone X impress you? If yes, then here’s some good news. Turns out, Apple is planning on bringing a lot of elements from the anniversary edition iPhone to next year’s top-end iPad.
As per Bloomberg, 2018’s iPad will flaunt an all-screen design with very thin top and bottom bezels. This would mean there will no longer be any space to accommodate the Touch ID button. Instead, Apple will include the iPhone X’s Face ID feature to unlock the tablet. This is, in fact, in line with what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo too predicts. ALSO READ: Apple iPad Pro 2 Review
The report states that these features would be included on the top-end iPad, which would probably make it the iPad Pro. The model in question will boast a 10.5-inch screen, but unlike the iPhone X, it won’t come with an OLED display. This is being blamed on the “technical and financial constraints” of manufacturing OLED displays at large volume.
Other details about next year’s iPads though remain a mystery. It remains to be seen if Apple introduces wireless charging and water and dust resistance on the top-end iPad. These are, however, not the only speculations, and it is quite unclear what chipset would be present in 2018’s iPhones and iPads. With the ongoing tussle with Qualcomm, reports suggest that Apple could switch sides and partner with either Intel or MediaTek. ALSO READ: Apple iPhone X first impressions
While the global tablet market isn’t at its best, Apple’s iPads continue to see growth. In its latest quarterly earnings, the company announced that it had sold 10.3 billion tablets, which marks a 11 percent year-on-year growth. Apple further revealed that it was seeing a strong demand for the iPad and the iPad Pro.
During the earnings call, Apple CFO Luca Maestri was quoted as saying, “It was great to see iPad unit and revenue growth in all of our geographic segments and particularly strong results in emerging markets, including greater China, where iPad units sales were up 25 percent year-over-year and India, which grew 39 percent.” ALSO READ: How to turn off your iPhone, iPad without using the power button
