Unless you’ve been living under a rocks, you’d know that Nokia has made a comeback under the aegis of HMD Global and is here to stay. The Nokia 6 ( review) was one of the three smartphones that marked the comeback of the cult brand. Announced back in January this year, the smartphone did not land in India until August. Now that January is around the corner again, speculations regarding its 2018 variant have started picking up. Now, the said smartphone has passed certification at TENAA in China and sports the model number TA-1054.
However, at this point, the TENAA leak does not reveal any sort of information regarding the spec sheet or the design. However, the appearance on TENAA means that the device is drawing close to launch. According to previous leaks, the upcoming handset is expected to ship with a 5.5-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It is expecyed to be powered by the mid-tier Snapdragon 630 processor, which has been mated to 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. According to a rumour, the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the back panel, which confirms that the handset might come with a bezel-less form factor. Moreover, the handset will flaunt stock Android as well as Nokia’s signature Bothie mode, which lets users stream using both front and rear cameras simultaneously. Speaking of cameras, the new phone might come with a dual camera module on the rear panel.
To recap on the existing Nokia 6, it ships with a 5.5-inch hybrid in-cell full HD display, which is protected by a layer of curved 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3. The performance of the handset is taken care of by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core SoC and 4GB of RAM. For imaging, there is a 16MP rear camera with an f/2 aperture and a 1µm sensor, along with an 8MP 1.12µm sensor with an f/2 aperture on the front. The handset sips power from a 3,000mAh battery and according to the brand, offers a maximum standby time of 32 days, 3G talk time of 18 hours, and music playback time of 22 hours. On the software front, the handset gets stock Android Nougat and a promised update to Android Oreo.
The Nokia 6 is already up for grabs in India and can be picked up for Rs 14,999. However, there is no word on its successor. We can expect it to be announced next month, and will bring you the latest updates, as soon as they emerge.
