Recently we reported about the renders of Samsung Galaxy S9 with a better infinity display and new camera design. Now new reports claim that Samsung might be working hard to make a better Face ID than Apple and might switch to and improved Iris scanner for accuracy and speed.
According to the Korea Herald, a source close to the company claimed Samsung is working on a new Iris Scanner.
Galaxy S9’s iris scanner will have an improved camera lens and functions to make it better to recognize the eyes of users. The iris camera lens will be improved to 3 megapixel from 2 megapixel of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 to capture clearer images. The scanner will better recognize users’ irises even when they wear eyeglasses, move their eyeballs or are in a too dark or too light environment.
If you remember, Microsoft was the first company to launch Lumia 950 and 950 XL with Iris scanner back in 2015 but for some reasons, companies didn’t prefer it over fingerprint scanners.
Unlike FaceID however Iris scans are actually unique between each user and will not be fooled by twins or other close family. In the past it has however been easier to hack with deliberately produced facsimiles, something Apple is also struggling with.
Apart from the Iris Scanner, Samsung Galaxy S9 will also carry Dual-SIM support. A listing for the same recently popped up at the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Unfortunately, we don’t still know about the specs of the device and it might be a while before we get any information as recently a Samsung spokesman said it’s unlikely that the company will launch a new device in CES 2018. For now, we can just wait and hope Samsung gets it right.
