Popular Drone manufacturer DJI took to the stage at CES and announced two new stabilising Gimbals. Dubbed the Osmo Mobile 2 and the Ronin-S, the former is a stabiliser for smartphones whereas the latter is intended for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras.
Coming to the specs of the Osmo Mobile 2,it comes as the successor to the Osmo Mobile and features a three-axis gimbal to counteract hand-shake. The gimbal has been constructed using high-strength nylon and comes equipped with a two-way mobile clamp along with a 1/4-inch universal screw mount. The DJI Osmo 2 also boasts a foldable design, making it easy to carry. The handle of the gimbal comprises various camera controls including options for ISO, shutter speed as well as a zoom slider. As far as the battery specifications go, DJI claims that the Osmo Mobile 2 can last a whopping 15 hours on a single charge, which is almost three times that of the older model.
The Ronin-S, on the other hand, is the company’s first ever single-handed stabiliser for DSLRs. Similar to the Mobile 2, the Ronin-S also ships with a three-axis gimbal making it easier to shoot videos and images while operating the DSLR with just one hand. The Ronin-S comes in two different frame sizes, one for DSLRs and the other for mirrorless cameras. DJI claims that the Ronin-S can stabilise fairly large cameras with the likes of the Canon 5D, Panasonic’s GH series, as well as Sony’s Alpha models.
Thosepurchasing the Mobile 2 or the Ronin-S can also make use of features like ActiveTrack, live streaming to social media platforms, and shooting Hyperlapses via the companion app. As for the pricing, the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 retails for $129 (~Rs 8,175) and will start shipping in February, with pre-orders starting from January 23rd. The pricing and availability information about DJI’s Ronin-S are currently not available, but we should have the details soon.
