A total of 22 North Korean athletes will take part in February’s Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, marching together with their South Korean counterparts at the opening ceremony under a unified flag, according to a new deal thrashed out on Saturday.
A total of 22 North Korean athletes will take part in February’s Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, marching together with their South Korean counterparts at the opening ceremony under a unified flag, according to a new deal thrashed out on Saturday.
The agreement to allow Pyongyang to send 22 athletes, 24 coaches and officials plus 21 media representatives was announced by the International Olympic Committee which met with South and North Korean representatives at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
It builds on a breakthrough in early January when delegations from both countries met on the heavily fortified border dividing the Korean Peninsula for the first time in over two years to discuss Pyongyang’s participation in South Korea’s Games.
