“The number one feeling I have had the past 4 days is gratitude,” the quarterback said before addressing his teammates, coaches and family.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reflected on his 2017 MVP season and the Super Bowl LII loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with an Instagram post on Friday expressing a message of thanks and gratitude.
“It has taken me a few days to reflect on our SB loss as well as the great season our team had,” Brady wrote. “There are many emotions when you come up short of your goal. And they are all part of learning and growing in this journey of life. Learning turns everything into a postitive. And the number one feeling I have had the past 4 days is gratitude. Gratitude to my teammates for the incredible effort given all season regardless of the challenges we faced.
“Gratitude toward my coaches for the effort and sacrifice they make to put us players in the best position to win.
“Gratitude to the NEP organization for supporting us on our very challenging and difficult journey.
“Gratitude to the Philadelphia Eagles team and organization for bringing out the best in us and being gracious winners (as well as congratulations on winning the championship).
“Gratitude toward our fans who showed up every week to cheer us on and commit their time and energy and love and support to what our goals are.
“And gratitude to my family and friends who continue to love and support my dreams.
“Thank you all. I love you all.
Best, Tom”
Brady, who won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player award for the third time, intends to play his 19th NFL season in 2018 at the age of 41.
Brady threw for 505 yards and three touchdowns last Sunday, but the Patriots fell 41-33 to the Eagles in Super Bowl LII.
Brady’s Instagram post came the morning after the Boston Herald published a story by columnist Ron Borges on Thursday night that Brady was seeking a contract similar to Jimmy Garoppolo’s and that he would skip organized team activities if he didn’t get it. The Herald later took the story down from its website.
Earlier Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers made Garoppolo the highest-paid player on a per-year basis in NFL history by signing him to a five-year, $137.5 million deal that includes $74 million in guarantees. For comparison, Brady is set to make a total of about $22 million next season. And another fun fact: Garoppolo will earn more in five years than the $135.4 million that Brady earned in his first 14 NFL seasons, according a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
