The video game publisher and developer Capcom officially announces that the action-RPG Monster Hunter World has set a new sales record for the company.
After having shipped over 5 million copies in its first three days of availability, there’s no doubt that the action role-playing game Monster Hunter World was set to be one of the most popular titles of 2018. Now, though, it looks as if MHW is one of the most coveted releases in Capcom’s history, as it has become the fastest title to ship 6 million units for the Japanese video game publisher and developer.
Capcom announced this particular feat for Monster Hunter World on its official website by sharing new figures that the action-RPG has now shipped over 6 million units worldwide, pointing to the fact that the title is indeed in high demand. Of course, it’s important to note that units shipped isn’t exactly the same as units sold, but it is definitely an indication of the huge amount of popularity surrounding the game.
Prior to this particular triumph for Monster Hunter World, it was already apparent that the game had been experiencing a very successful launch period, especially since it managed to become the first PS4 game to break 1 million in first week sales in Japan. Combine that with the fact that Monster Hunter World had received a plethora of positive reviews ahead of its release showing near-universal acclaim, Capcom certainly has a bona fide blockbuster on its hands.
All things considered, with Monster Hunter World‘s success on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One seeming to be on an upward trajectory that doesn’t look to be leveling off any time soon, it stands to reason that the launch of the PC version later this year will only cause sales figures to grow exponentially. And with Capcom having promised that it will continue to release free DLC for the foreseeable future, it looks like the company is in it for the long haul with Monster Hunter World.
Monster Hunter World is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will launch in autumn 2018 for PC.
