Police said Julie Ann Shaffer died after being involved in a two-vehicle crash with a semi-truck shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, March 29, on M-40 at 140th Avenue.
ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI — Authorities have released the name of the 30-year-old Holland woman killed in a two-vehicle crash in Fillmore Township of Allegan County.
Police said Julie Ann Shaffer died after being involved in a two-vehicle crash with a semi-truck shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, March 29, on M-40 at 140th Avenue.
Shaffer was driving a Ford Escape west on 140th Avenue when a southbound semi-truck, traveling on M-40, struck the SUV in the passenger side. Police believe Shaffer might have failed to stop at the intersection.
The collision occurred in the intersection, and sent the semi-truck and trailer into a field southwest of the intersection. Shaffer’s vehicle ended up on the east shoulder of the roadway.
Police said the semi-truck driver — a 60-year-old South Haven-area man — suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. Deputies on scene were assisted by the Oversiel Township Fire Department, Hamilton Fire Department, and AMR ambulance.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of M-40 were shutdown while the crash was being investigated. It reopened later that morning.
