PUBG Corp has finally announced its roadmap of upcoming content for Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds in 2018.
In a blog post from creative director Brendan Greene, the studio says that a new map rolling out next month on its Test Server. This is a four kilometre by four kilometre play space; much smaller than the current maps, which are each 10km by 10km.
This means a higher player density, but also carnage from start-to-finish, presumably. The post also references shorter matches, but it’s left unclear whether that’s a lower time limit or matches ending sooner due to the aforementioned changes to player density.
There’s also another eight km by eight km map in the works, too.
Improvements to stability are also mentioned, as is PUBG Corp’s on-going battle to try and combat cheaters within the game .
In addition to the above, PUBG Corp is rolling out new game modes for the battle royale title, but is unable to share details, with new vehicles and weapons joining the fray, too.
If all that wasn’t enough, PUBG Corp is also making changes to the game’s ballistics systems, with limb and vehicle bullet penetration being tweaked in the name of realism. That’s on top of updating the game’s art style and introducing an emote system. Cool.
The firm says that it plans to provide a major content update every two months to the battle royale game, with the first launching in March. These will be big changes to systems or to introduce new content. Alongside that, there will be smaller one, presumably for little tweaks.
Changes are also being made to vehicle sounds, as well as the sounds that players make when on the move to better reflect what they are carrying. Gun sounds will also be tweaked in the first half of 2018 to be more distinct.
Those keen to create third-party applications for the battle royale title are in luck, too, with the roll out of the PUBG Developer Portal and the PUBG Developer API. This will let community developers have access to information from the game, including match and player data.
Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds launched last March and has over 30m players on PC alone.
