Samsung’s Galaxy Note-series flagship smartphone for 2018 appears to be coming earlier in the year than its predecessor did last year. Yes, you read that right. References related to the Galaxy Note 9 have been found in Geekbench’s database, revealing some hardware specifications of the device.
The Samsung phone with model number SM-N960U has appeared in Geekbench’s database, and scored 2,190 points in the performance benchmark tool’s single-core test and 8,806 points in the multi-core test. However, this score isn’t anything mind-blowing since the Exynos 9810 variant will end up scoring more points than the variant with the Snapdragon 845 chipset.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 appears to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with a 1.77GHz octa-core CPU, and the GPU should be the Adreno 630. The chipset is paired with 6GB of RAM, and should most probably have 128GB of onboard storage. On the software side of things, the Galaxy Note 9 appears to be running Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung Experience 9.0 user interface. These are the only details which can be known from the phone’s Geekebench listing.
A few recent reports had shed some light on the possible features of the phone. Examining some of those reports, we got to learn that Samsung has already developed firmwares for the smartphone, and its version numbers are N960FXXE0ARB7 and N960FXXU0ARC5, and that the firmwares are being tested out globally. Furthermore, it is also believed that Samsung could take the final decision about the implementation of an in-screen fingerprint reader for the Galaxy Note 9 later this month. The brand has already prepared three to four kinds of solutions for embedding the fingerprint reader under the display.
Apart from that, it has also been known from the phone’s HTML benchmark test that the device will have an ultra-tall screen with a an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, similar to that of Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9, and the Galaxy S9+. The handset is also believed to come packed with a larger-than-ever battery capacity compared to other phones in the Galaxy Note series, and that it could have a battery capacity of 3850mAh.
Moving on the possible launch time frame of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, it is believed that the phone will go official as early as July or August, 2018. The reason for this earlier-than-usual launch time frame is that Samsung hasn’t achieved the sales figures it expected from the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+, and that the company wishes to make up for the sales by launching the Galaxy Note 9 earlier than the upcoming iPhones.
The other pointer towards the early launch of the Galaxy Note 9 could be an earlier (April 2018) shipment of the OLED screen panel from Samsung Display, which is two months earlier than the usual June time frame for the Galaxy Note series lineup of smartphones.
