Fortnite developer Epic Games adds Vending Machines to Battle Royale, which allow players to exchange their spare resource materials for loot in-game.
Fortnite developer Epic Games revealed earlier this week that Vending Machines would be coming to the game very soon, confirming theories about the feature, but providing little detail about how they would work.
A new message from Epic outlines a few different upcoming features and changes, including Content Updates, gameplay and, of course, Vending Machines. Starting this week, Epic will drop new content without the need for an update. These will be called Content Updates. This will allow the developer to fix more complex bugs, while still providing fun new content every week.
Vending Machines have been much anticipated by Fortnite players, especially after a player actually encountered one in the wild while disconnected from the live servers. The basic idea for this new Battle Royale feature is: materials go in, loot comes out.
If players find themselves running around with tons of spare materials, now they can put that stack of 500 Wood to good use. They can spend these materials at the Vending Machines, which can be found in many locations across the island. Each Machine offers three different deals, rarity and items chosen at random.
Each Vending Machine will randomly select a rarity. Here’s a breakdown of how all items sold will match that rarity:
Each Vending Machine will sell three items, one for each material type (Wood, Stone, Metal). It will cycle through each of the three items on a short timer, but players can make the Machine switch items faster by hitting it with their Pickaxe.
Perhaps the best part of this new feature is that there is no purchase limit to the items available at the Vending Machines, so stock up on those materials!
Fortnite‘s recent update for Battle Royale also aims to adjust many of the weapons’ First Shot Accuracy, introduces a limited time game mode (High Explosives v2), and adjusts the resource gathering rates. The update also brings an Easter Egg Launcher to the game’s Save the World campaign. However, the update does not address the current shotgun bug that’s been found in the game, which makes it so shotguns don’t register critical damage.
Fortnite has proven to remain super popular among its player base and beyond, and Epic has managed to keep up with new content and customization features since the launch of Battle Royale. However, the game’s recent 3.4.4 update ended up being a ridiculous 10GB on the PS4. Epic is investigating this unexpected issue.
In the meantime, everyone can agree that the new rock, paper, scissors emote is one of the best things to come out of this update.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and iOS.
