Honor 10 has finally been launched in China at an event that happened earlier today. It’s a new high-end smartphone which succeeds last year’s Honor 9, and comes with plenty of upgrades. The Honor 10 features upgraded screen, front as well as rear-facing cameras, processing speed, and battery life. The smartphone can be considered as Huawei P20 ‘s counterpart, featuring similar specifications. It has a 5.84-inch Full HD+ screen with minimal bezels and a notch, a 24MP+16MP rear-facing AI camera, and a 24MP front-facing camera.
The phone’s specifications were leaked through TENAA. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with the help of the Kirin 970 processor, 6GB RAM, and either 64GB of internal storage. It has a metal chassis and glass covering at the front and the rear, and it even uses the Huawei P20 series-like multi-colour pattern (colour variants were leaked ahead of launch). However, it keeps the 3.5mm headphone port, something that’s missing from the company’s Huawei P20 series of smartphones. It misses out on stereo speakers, dust and water resistance, and a 4000mAh battery, though. Let’s have a look at detailed specifications and pricing.
The Honor 10 comes in two variants, one with 64GB storage and the other with 128GB storage. The variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at CNY 2,599 (approximately, ₹27,000) in China, while the variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage costs CNY 2,999 (approximately, ₹31,000).
The Honor 10 will be available for pre-order starting from 20 April, 2018 through JD.com, VMall.com, and TMall.com in China. Consumers can start registering for the sale starting today, though. The Honor 10 will start shipping on 27 April, 2018. There’s no information on its launch in the Indian market. The Honor 10 will be launched in London on May 15.
The Honor 10 has a 5.84-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution (1080×2280 pixels), 19:9 aspect ratio, and minimal bezels. There’s an iPhone X-style notch in the screen, something that has also been used in latest smartphones from ASUS, Huawei, and OnePlus. As much as we hate the screen notch, it has become an industry standard, and most smartphone brands have decided to implement a screen notch in the smartphones. The Honor 10 misses out on stereo speakers and IP67 certification for dust and water-resistance, though, something that the Huawei P20 Pro features.
The smartphone features a dual-camera setup at its rear, consisting of a 16MP RGB sensor (with f/1.8 aperture) and a 24MP monochrome sensor. The camera merges the information from both the sensors into a single better-looking image. There’s no OIS, though. The company claims to use aritificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to automatically detect scenes, subjects, and objects inside the frame to apply custom settings automatically. The phone can record 4K videos using its rear-facing camera. There’s a 24MP camera at the front, featuring f/2.4 aperture and 1080p video recording.
The Honor 10 runs the company’s EMUI 8.1 software which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. It features the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset, which is also used in all high-end smartphones from Honor and Huawei. The Kirin 970 processor uses four Cortex-A73 CPU cores clocked at 2.36GHz, four Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 1.8GHz, and Mali-G72MP12 GPU. There’s 6GB of LP-DDR4X RAM, and the phone will be sold in two storage variants: 64GB and 128GB. It doesn’t support storage expansion, so there’s no microSD card slot. It will be available in four colours: Midnight Black, Phantom Blue, Phantom Violet, and Seagull Ash.
There’s a fingerprint reader at the front of the phone, just below the screen. It would’ve been great if Honor had placed it at the rear of the phone. In terms of connectivity, there’s a dual-SIM card slot, GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2 (with LE, aptX and aptX HD), USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone port. The Honor 10 uses a 3400mAh battery with fast charging mechanism (5V, 4.5A). There’s a Hi-Fi audio chip (AK4376A) inside the Honor 10 for better audio quality through headphones. Other features include compatibility for AR apps and games as well as 3D portrait lighting effects through the camera.
