So, who’s the man behind Blue’s memorable looks — like the epic gold number with a matching headpiece that the little one wore to grandmother Tina Knowles-Lawson’s Wearable Art Gala?
It’s Manuel Mendez, who’s been employed by Beyoncé’s company Parkwood Entertainment since 2009. Prior to styling Blue, Mendez worked as one of Beyoncé’s personal assistants. Last week, Beyoncé’s rep confirmed to Women’s Wear Daily that he is indeed the tiny fashionista’s personal shopper and stylist.
Some of the top looks Mendez has crafted for Blue Ivy include the custom white Valery Kovalska tuxedo pantsuit with glittery silver Mary Janes she wore to the 2018 Grammy Awards. The 6-year-old added a few personal accessories later in the night: fruit snacks and a juice box that you might remember.
For Jay-Z’s “Family Feud” music video, Mendez styled Blue in a custom fairy-tale creation, featuring a Billieblush collar, Raimana Cowan dress and shoes by Aquazzura.
And who could forget the tot’s heavenly Mischka Aoki dress, Giuseppe Zanotti high tops and Lorraine Schwartz tiara from the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards?
Since taking over the styling reins for Baby Blue, Mendez has documented her fashion evolution on Instagram. Her official debut on his feed came in 2013 when the stylist shared a picture of Blue Ivy sporting a leopard print swimsuit. Since then, Mendez has documented all of her fashion home runs, captioning each post with the designers’ names and the hashtags #KidsStyle and #KidsFashion.
