Churning out great phones that are competitively priced isn’t the only thing a phone manufacturer should do. Research and Development (R&D) is also an important aspect. Not only do you get to make better phones, but you can also license your technology to others.
OPPO is known for its focus on research and it has decided to take it a level higher by establishing a research and development institute with branches across the globe.
A report from Chinese media iFeng.com, says the headquarters of the OPPO Research Institute will be based in Shenzhen with branches in Beijing, Shanghai, Dongguan, Yokohama (Japan), and Silicon Valley (US). The institute will focus on three things – software, hardware, and standards. It will also conduct research on 5G, AI, image processing, and the use of new materials.
There was an official opening ceremony of the institute on March 29. In attendance, were the CEO Chen Mingyong, and senior vice president Zeng Yuanqing. It was also announced that the dean of the institute will be Mr. Liu Chang.

OPPO also announced that it will strengthen its partnerships with universities across the globe. At the moment, it has a partnership with Stanford University to develop AI technologies and applications. It is also working with the New York University on 5G.
