A man wanted in a Charlotte, NC, homicide from December was arrested in Jacksonville, FL, on Saturday. CMPD detectives will travel to Jacksonville to interview the man and he will be extradited to Mecklenburg County, police said.
Nearly five months after Antwain Maurice Price was found with a gunshot wound in a vacant field in west Charlotte, police say they’ve found the man responsible for his death.
Joseph Tyrell Abercrombie, 33, was arrested in Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives will travel to Jacksonville to interview him, police said.
Police said extradition proceedings have begun to move Abercrombie to Mecklenburg County, but there’s no firm date for when he’ll arrive.
Price was shot on Thomasboro Drive in west Charlotte on Dec. 14, which was his 39th birthday.
In early April, CMPD identified Abercrombie as a suspect in the case. He had outstanding warrants for murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with Price’s death, police said at the time, and he also had unrelated arrest warrants for identity theft, possession of stolen goods, felony conspiracy and other charges.
“Abercrombie knows that he is wanted and is reportedly moving along interstates staying in motels,” police said in April, noting that he might have been in South Carolina .
Abercrombie used the nicknames “Jay” and “South Carolina,” police said.
