A Houston dentist who served 15 years behind bars for running over and killing her cheating husband walked out of prison a free woman Friday.
Clara Harris, a former Friendswood, Texas dentist, was convicted in 2003 for running over her husband, David Harris, multiple times with her Mercedez-Benz after she caught him having an affair with another woman, ABC 13 reported.
A private investigator hired by Harris to trail her orthodontist husband and his mistress caught the criminal act on camera.
Harris’ stepdaughter, who was in the vehicle at the time of the killing, testified against her, according to ABC 13.
Harris was released Friday after serving 15 years of a 20-year sentence.
She must not have contact with her former in-laws, her stepdaughter, or her ex-husband’s former mistress.
She must also reside in Galveston County and wear an ankle monitor.
Harris plans to spend her first nights out of prison with a family friend who retrieved her Friday.
The same friend has been raising her two sons for the past 15 years, according to reports.
Harris will remain on parole until February 2023.
Defense attorney George Parnham said he was happy about Harris’ release.
“I’m glad she’s getting out,” he said. “I wish it would have happened sooner,” he told KHOU11 .
Parnham said he believes his former client will easily adjust to society.
“She’s bright and she will land on her own two feet,” Parnham said. “She has a support system in her community should she choose to live here.”
