James Corden Is Surprised Trump Remembered His Own Anniversary — With Robert Mueller

After President Trump noted that the Russia probe had entered its second year, Corden imagined the first lady’s reaction: “Oh, so you are capable of remembering anniversaries?’”

Robert Mueller was appointed as the special counsel a year ago Thursday, and late-night TV eagerly celebrated the anniversary. But James Corden was surprised to see that President Trump, too, had taken note.
Rudolph Giuliani, the former New York mayor who’s on Trump’s legal team, has said that Mueller, in keeping with Justice Department policy, will not indict Trump — even if he finds potentially criminal wrongdoing. Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert both said that Giuliani might have made the president sound safe, legally speaking, but he didn’t make him sound innocent.

Amber Ruffin wasn’t thrilled by last week’s episode of “Roseanne,” in which the main character is suspicious of her Muslim neighbors until they offer her their internet password. “The minorities had to prove themselves to her,” Ruffin said. “That’s a dangerous mentality, and it isn’t limited to ‘Roseanne.’”
It’s a very 2018 phenomenon: The writers of a TV show — “13 Reasons Why,” in this case — are trying to anticipate the conversations and call-outs their show will generate on social media, before they’ve even written it.
