He was wrong, of course. There’s no evidence to suggest that a significant chunk of Trump’s base believes that comparing black people to apes is just dandy. In fact, it’s pretty obvious that this isn’t the case: ABC cancelled Roseanne’s show in anticipation of both viewer and advertiser backlash – backlash that wouldn’t exist if Trump’s base reflected Roseanne’s racist tweet.
However, there is some pretty solid evidence to suggest that Samantha Bee authentically represents a significant chunk of the Hillary base.
This week, Bee suggested that Ivanka Trump was a “feckless c***” for having the gall to take a picture with her small child over Memorial Day weekend. Ivanka, you see, is responsible for all Trump administration policy, and thus should have dressed sexily to seduce her father away from his immigration fanaticism, according to Bee.
Bee wasn’t fired. TBS never thought about firing her, in all likelihood. After all, they saw nothing wrong with her original comments, which were scripted, taped, and aired. That’s because Bee’s viewers expect this sort of thing from her. It’s what they’re tuning in to watch. And it’s why the Left keeps honoring her as a truth-teller. The very night of her apology for her comments, she accepted an award from the Television Academy for “social change.”

Nobody defended Roseanne, aside from a few fringe characters. The same simply isn’t true for Bee.
It has become mainstream Left-wing cant that everyone remotely associated with Team Trump is evil, and that they therefore deserve the most vicious assaults anyone can level at them. This isn’t a fringe phenomenon. It’s far fairer to say that Samantha Bee’s audience came for the vile garbage than that Roseanne’s audience did. And it’s far fairer to say that Bee’s worldview authentically represents a significant chunk of Hillary voters than to say that Roseanne’s worldview does the same for Trump voters.
