Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy A9 Star in China on June 7. Ahead of its official unveiling the phone has been subjected to some leaks and rumours that suggest the new A series flagship will come with premium features at an affordable price point. With only a few hours to go before its launch, the Galaxy A9 Star has now surfaced on Geekbench, revealing and possibly confirming some key specifications.
The Samsung Galaxy A9 Star will reportedly be powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset which will be paired with 4GB of RAM. The phone will also run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. Prior to the Geekbench listing, rumours suggested that the Galaxy A9 Star will borrow design cues from the Galaxy S9+ which includes a 6.28-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED (1080×2220) Infinity Display, a dual rear camera setup and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Unlike the Galaxy S9+, however, the Galaxy A9 Star will come with a metal body rather than glass.
Alongside the Galaxy A9 Star, Samsung is also expected to launch the Galaxy A9 Star Lite, which will likely come with a similar design but a smaller display. The Lite model is also expected to come with some stripped down hardware including a single 24MP rear sensor and 3,500mAh battery compared to a 3,700mAh battery inside the bigger Galaxy A9 Star. Both the phones are tipped to come with face recognition technology and may be equipped with a dedicated Bixby Assistant button as well.
Samsung will confirm the pricing of the phone on June 7, but rumours suggest that the Galaxy A9 Star could be priced at CNY 3699 which is roughly Rs 36,600 and the Galaxy A9 Star Lite could cost CNY 2,699, which is roughly Rs 28,200. The phones will go on sale in China from June 15 and there’s no word yet on when and if the phones will make it to India.
