OTSU, SHIGA PREF. – Shiga Gov. Taizo Mikazuki won re-election on Sunday after gaining wide support from both ruling and opposition parties.
Mikazuki, 47, a former senior vice minister of transport in 2010 when the now-defunct Democratic Party of Japan was in power, has served as governor of the prefecture since 2014.
He is supported by members of the opposition Democratic Party for the People and also endorsed by the local chapters of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner, Komeito.
