President Trump claimed in Tweets on Wednesday that four reporters saw First Lady Melania Trump “walking merrily along” to a meeting in the White House last week but didn’t write about it because it would “hurt their sick narrative.”
”Four reporters spotted Melania in the White House last week walking merrily along to a meeting,” he wrote on his Twitter feed, without identifying the reporters or their outlets. “ They never reported the sighting because it would hurt the sick narrative that she was living in a different part of the world, was really ill, or whatever. Fake News is really bad! ”
In another tweet, he said the “Fake News Media” has been “so unfair, and vicious to my wife” and accused news outlets of drumming up stories about why she hadn’t been seen in public.
”During her recovery from surgery they reported everything from near death, to facelift, to left the W. H. (and me) for N. Y. or Virginia, to abuse. All Fake, she is doing really well!,” he wrote.
Last Wednesday, Eamon Javers, a CNBC reporter, Tweeted that he had seen the First Lady in the West Wing the day before.
“Not that this will deter the conspiracy theorists, but I saw the First Lady walking with her aides in the West Wing yesterday afternoon,” Javers wrote .
Later that afternoon, Melania Trump tweeted a message to dispell speculation about her absence.
“I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing. Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!” she said.
The First Lady remained largely out of the public eye since May 10 when she accompanied her husband to meet the three Americans who had been released by North Korea.
Four days later she was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., for treatment on a benign kidney condition.
She appeared Monday – the first public appearance in 24 days – at a private White House event for Gold Star families.
But she didn’t travel with the president when he went to Camp David in Maryland over the weekend and her office announced that she wouldn’t accompany him when he goes to the G-7 summit in Quebec this weekend and the meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12.
Melania Trump also didn’t attend her husband’s “Celebration of America” event at the White House Tuesday after the president canceled a victory celebration with the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles.
She’s scheduled to make a public appearance later Wednesday afternoon with Trump at hurricane briefing at FEMA’s headquarters.
