The Amazon Prime Day Sale is only open to those who have subscribed to Amazon Prime membership.
If you haven’t noticed it already, head over to the Amazon India website and you will see that the e-retail giant is holding the Amazon Prime Day Sale. The sale started on July 16 and lasts until the midnight today, which is the end of July 17. While there are many good deals, the best deals are on Amazon’s own products. The Amazon Kindle e-readers and the Echo speakers have been heavily discounted. In fact, in the case of the Echo Dot, the tiny smart speaker that is powered by Alexa, the discount is nearly 50 per cent. The Kindle Paperwhite, meanwhile, gets a discount of 25 per cent.
Needless to say, if you are hoping to get a smart Echo speaker or a Kindle e-reader, now is the best time. Here are the top deals on Echo speakers and Kindles that Amazon is offering in the Prime Day sale:
If you also intend to use the smart speaker for music — probably you do given that this is a speaker you are buying — we suggest that you step up and get the Amazon Echo that is a bigger speaker and is now selling for Rs 6,999. The original price of this speaker is Rs 9,999 so you get a discount of 30 per cent.
The Echo Dot and the Echo are the only Echo speakers offered with a discount in the Amazon Prime Day sale. The Echo Spot and the Echo Plus sell at their original price.
This is a fairly good deal with the sale price amounting to discount of 22 per cent. But we believe a better deal here is the deal on the Kindle Paperwhite. This Kindle sells at a price of Rs 10,999 but in the Amazon Prime Day Sale it is available at a price of Rs 8,249, which means a discount of 25 per cent. The discount is on the Wi-Fi variant of the Paperwhite. The variant that supports cellular connectivity continues to sell at its original price.
But there is more: While the deals on the Echo speakers and the Kindle are fairly good, there is additional 10 per cent discount for those who are using a HDFC Bank card to make purchases. Do utiilise it if you can to save some more money.
Well, this is a question worth asking. The Amazon Prime Day Sale is only open to those who have subscribed to Amazon Prime membership. If you are not a member then you will have to spend some money to first get the membership before you can access the deals that are available on the Echo speakers or the Kindle reader.
The Prime membership, if you are not a member already, costs Rs 999 per year. Or you can join it for Rs 129 per month and then cancel it in case you just want it to make use of the current Prime deals that Amazon is offering.
In our opinion the Prime membership is worth it. It gives subscribers access to Prime video and music streaming as well as free one-day or two-day shipping whenever you buy something from Amazon India. Of course, it all depends on whether you do a lot of shopping from Amazon or not, or if you want access to Prime video and Music or not. If you buy the Amazon Echo speaker, then you will also — most likely — want subscription to Prime Music, so do keep that in mind.
While Rs 999 additional expense puts dampener on the Prime Day Sales for those who are not the Prime members, there is a way out. If you are an Airtel or Vodafone postpaid user and subscribe to a Red or Infinity plan, you can actually get the Prime membership free for a year. So, if you are eyeing a deal on Kindle or Echo, and use a postpaid number from Airtel and Vodafone, do utilise that.
