DrinkBox Studios releases a new trailer for the Metroidvania game Guacamelee! 2 that reveals its release date and shows off some new chicken powers for Juan.
The original Guacamelee! was an award-winning take on the Metroidvania genre that managed to stand out thanks to its unique theme of lucha libre (Mexican professional wrestling). The sequel, Guacamelee! 2, has a lot to live up to, but fans will find out if it lives up to expectations when it launches at the end of next month for PC and PlayStation 4.
As revealed earlier today, Guacamelee! 2 will launch for PC and PlayStation 4 on August 21. The game looks to be a continuation of what made the first game so popular, with players exploring a world map filled with dangerous hazards, secret areas, and tons of enemies. Players will have access to a variety of unique maneuvers to help them navigate the game world, and they will also have an arsenal of attacks inspired by professional wrestling moves to defeat their foes.
Guacamelee! 2‘s release date was announced with a new trailer that gave fans a brief glimpse at the game. As can be seen in the trailer, Guacamelee! 2 is mixing things up a bit with new platforming challenges and more powers given to the player’s chicken form. Check it out right here:
As previously stated, the original Guacamelee! was critically-acclaimed, so the sequel has a lot to live up to. Luckily for fans, it seems as though the sequel will live up to expectations, as it’s delivering an experience that appears familiar while also mixing up the established formula in various ways.
One way that Guacamelee! 2 is looking to mix things up for returning players is by expanding the role of chickens, giving them a lot more abilities than they had the original. Another way is by giving players new ways to level up, learning skills by completing special challenges for trainer characters that they come across in the game world.
Guacamelee! 2 is also bringing back the four player co-op that was introduced in a free post-launch update for the original. Overall, Guacamelee! 2 is looking impressive, and it will be interesting to see if it meets fan expectations when it launches late next month.
Guacamelee! 2 will launch on August 21 for PC and PS4.
