Jakiw Palij, who is now 95 years old, served as a death camp guard in Poland during World War II and first entered the U. S. after the war by lying about his role in the Holocaust. After decades of efforts of trying to remove him, the Trump administration was finally able to negotiate Palij’s deportation to Germany. (RELATED: Trump, ICE Deport Last Known Nazi Living In US)
ABC News captured exclusive footage of ICE arresting Palij on Monday. Palij was removed from his home in a wheelchair and was transferred to a hospital stretcher.
According to ABC, Palij appeared to be frail and let out a “howl” of pain when he was moved from the wheelchair to the stretcher.
“Despite a court ordering his deportation in 2004, past administrations were unsuccessful in removing Palij,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders explained in a statement released Tuesday morning. “To protect the promise of freedom for Holocaust survivors and their families, President Trump prioritized the removal of Palij.”
