Forget the bouncy purple space cube for a moment. Just pretend that the universe isn’t fractured, with the net result being a Borg/ The Colour Purple /trampoline crossover. Put that out of your mind? Good stuff.
Fortnite’s latest event, called High Stakes, has a heist thriller vibe to it, with some dapper 1960s costumes. It’s like a mashup between GTA V’s heists and the original Italian Job, and even has a limited-time mode called Getaway. That also means a bunch of skins and other cosmetic items, plus a raft of challenges, but there’s also an addition to the game’s weapon roster: the grappler.
Ostensibly the Fortnite grappling hook is a bit of a Wallace and Gromit version of Rico’s Just Cause grappler, with a big plunger sucker on the front rather than an actual pointy hook. That would suggest you can’t hurt someone with it, but that remains to be seen.
Gameplay-wise, it’s a similar notion to the jetpack, but obviously, you’ll need buildings (or other bits of the environment) to grapple on to, to propel yourself upwards. It’s also slightly less prone to dick moves than the guided missile.
The Fortnite grappling hook will be available later this week, then the High Stakes event goes live.

Motorsport simulation F1 2018 remains at the top of the UK video games chart for a second week.
The UK video games chart sees three new games enter the top ten, but none can knock Codemasters’ well-received F1 2018 from the top spot.
The closest challenger is Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, which enters at No.2. Despite an improved chart position on last year’s edition, GFK Chart Track say the game has sold 42% fewer units in its first week. The ever-popular Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy drops one place to fourth.
Elsewhere in the top ten, Sega’s Y akuza Kiwami 2 enters the chart at No.5, and the Nintendo Switch action RPG, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, debuts at No.9.
Other new entries further down the chart include PSVR shooter, Firewall Zero Hour, at No.11, and there’s a disappointing debut for Rebillion’s multiplayer adventure shooter, Strange Brigade, which lands at No.16.
Larian Studio’s epic RPG, Divinity Original Sin II, enters the chart at No.23 off the back of its Xbox One and PlayStation 4 release.
You can see the full UK software chart for the week ending September 1,2018 at the GFK Chart Track website .

Here’s the full roundup of this week’s Nintendo eShop video game releases for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS.
Heart Machine’s Hyper Light Drifter – Special Edition is one of this week’s Nintendo Switch eShop highlights. The action RPG comes to Switch with a number of exclusive features, including a new costume, two new weapons, and a Tower Climb challenge.
There’s also a welcome release for The Fullbright Company’s influential exploration game, Gone Home, which comes to the Switch via the good folk at Annapurna Interactive.
And at the other end of the scale we have tag-team fighter, SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, Yasuyuki Oda’s pseudo-sequel to King of Fighters XV .
As usual, this list is subject to change – you can expect something from the ACA NeoGeo range – so check back for updates throughout the week.
Here is the current lineup of Nintendo eShop releases.
Also coming to the Nintendo 3DS this week is Yo Kai Watch Blasters: Red Cat Corps and White Dog Squad.

There’s still chance to pick up a bunch of scary games – and raise money for charity – in the Humble Spooky Horror bundle, but time is running out.
Ah yes, the end of August and beginning of September. Is there any time of the year that’s more associated with horror, fright, and things that go bump in the night? Wait, what? Halloween? No idea what you’re talking about, mate.
To celebrate the start of Spooktember – what do you mean, that’s not a thing? – there’s a suitably scary Humble Spooky Horror bundle, with some essential horror games. Pick of the litter is BioShock Remastered, of course, but Friday the 13th and Dead by Daylight add some interesting new dimensions to this bundle’s fright factor. While all of the games on offer come with Steam keys, a number of games in the bundle – including BioShock Remastered, and the original version that comes with it – also come with Mac availability, which is nice.
Here’s the full breakdown of the games and reward levels in the Humble Spooky Horror bundle 2018.
