A police dog named Rocky was killed, and two officers were injured, in a crash during a car chase in Long Island on Sunday morning, cops said.
The tragedy unfolded after the driver of a dark-colored Audi sedan blew through a sobriety checkpoint in Riverhead at around 2:30 a.m. — striking a cop as he zoomed past, police said.
A number of officers chased after the driver in their cars, including a K9 unit that responded to the scene, police said.
But the K9 unit officer lost control of the car during the chase and crashed into a utility police near West Main Street and Raynor Avenue — and Rocky was ejected from the vehicle in the collision, officials said.
The pooch later died from his injuries.
Medics responded to the scene and treated the officer involved in the crash and the cop struck by the Audi driver, police said.
The Audi driver, an unidentified man, got away and has not been arrested.
