Social media has increasingly become a major source of spreading fake news. It seems the clutches of fake news have gripped the demise of AB Vajpayee.
Social Media is increasingly becoming a platform where people are regurgitating out fake news. A picture that suggests Vajpayee’s ashes being available for sale on Amazon has been doing rounds on WhatsApp. The image is printed with words like “Atal Ji’s original ashes and a copper kalsh with a book on our great leader Shree Narendra Modi ji’s journey” along with pictures of the two mentioned BJP leaders.
A BJP member apparently fell prey to the fake news imbroglio and tweeted this in response:
However, he soon realised the faux pas and immediately deleted the tweet.

Many a people started sharing the images and slamming the political party for this supposed insensitivity. Some media outlets even covered the news.
However, when you search on the Amazon, no such results come up cementing the fact that this is indeed a fake news. Nevertheless, the malicious fake agenda has worked what it set out to do. People are quick to condemn BJP and its leaders without verifying the news.
Former PM Vajpayee passed away on August 16 at AIIMS in Delhi. The ashes of the former Prime Minister were immersed at the confluence of river Ganga and the Bay of Bengal in West Bengal on Aug 24th.
