President Xi Jinping has arrived at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge, a project slated to take the city’s integration with mainland China to a new level. Follow the ceremony live below

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam said this year was the 40th anniversary of China’s opening up, a transformation Hong Kong had played a part in and benefited from.
Lam said the integration between Hong Kong, Macau and the mainland will only be strengthened.
She recognised three cross-border infrastructure projects that would open in the space of a year, the high-speed rail link, the bridge and the Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point which will open early next year.

Guangdong party chief Li Xi said the bridge could withstand threats such as Typhoon Manghut and is a symbol of dreams realised by the people of the three places.
“The bridge can facilitate the people of three places to seek common development,” he said.
Guangdong will facilitate and cooperate with Hong Kong to push for better development, he added

After a delay of two years and a cost overrun of billions of dollars, the Chinese leader and top officials from Hong Kong and mainland China gathered in the city of Zhuhai, Guangdong province, for the launch of the mega bridge before it finally opened for public use on Wednesday.
