A Brooklyn College professor has sparked outrage for blowing off high school sexual misconduct in a scathing blog post on the Kavanaugh hearings last week.
“If someone did not commit sexual assault in high school, then he is not a member of the male sex,” wrote business professor Mitchell Langbert on September 27. “The Democrats have discovered that 15-year-olds play spin-the-bottle, and they have jumped on a series of supposed spin-the-bottle crimes during Kavanaugh’s minority, which they characterize as rape, although no one complained or reported any crime for 40 years.”
Langbert’s inflammatory language has drawn intense criticism on campus and beyond with several students groups demanding the tenured teacher’s immediate sacking.
“His statements are genuinely dangerous. They clearly advocate for participating in violent crimes, and generally in discrimination against women, who are already in serious danger, statistically, on college campuses and in broader society,” said senior Corrinne Greene, the college’s chapter leader of the Young Progressives of America.
Langbert, who has openly mocked Brooklyn College as a four-year leftist training camp, also slammed Democrats in the post as “totalitarian sissies who lack virility, a sense of decency, or the masculine judgment that has characterized the greatest civilizations…”
Livid critics ripped that remark as chauvinistic – and launched a #fireprofessorlangbert hashtag on Twitter Tuesday.
A campus protest is also slated for Thursday.
“I was dumbfounded when I saw this,” alumna Alison Schur told The Post. “The very first sentence advocates for sexual assault. You can have an opinion on the Kavanaugh case all you want. But to advocate for sexual assault in beyond mind-boggling.”
Reached at his Catskills home Tuesday, Langbert seemed bemused by the uproar and promised to sue his employer should they threaten his job .
In explaining his phrasing, Langbert insisted that the language was provocative but undeserving of mass rage.
“It’s natural for males to be sexually exploratory,” he said. “As long as there is no coercion or violence it’s not a crime.”
Langbert said he has been the target of defamatory allegations because of his political views while at Brooklyn College.
“The left uses defamation and lies about manufactured events or events that are exaggerated to blacken the names of people they disagree with,” he said.
As for the students demanding his ejection, Langbert claimed that the school foments progressive groupthink and that he’s actually pleased to have appalled his campus nemeses.
“Students are indoctrinated in socialism in this school and they’re trained to demand that anyone who disagrees with them should be fired,” he said. “It’s a travesty – and there are times you have to fight back against the totalitarian bigotry that Brooklyn College represents.”
But Greene said Langbert’s language was clearly beyond the pale – and promised that her group won’t rest until the school’s administration takes tangible action against him.
“An institution with a ‘commitment to diversity’ cannot employ anyone who publicly supports and calls for sexually-based violence,” she said. “Brooklyn College must immediately cut ties with professor Langbert. We call for a full investigation and for his termination.”
