The Realme U1 is selfie-centric smartphone and the world’s first device to be powered by the new Helio P70 chipset
Realme is gearing up to launch its brand new U series on Wednesday, November 28. The company is sending out media invites for the launch of the Realme U1, which will be the first phone in this series. This is a selfie-centric smartphone as per the invite and it will also be the world’s first device to be powered by the new Helio P70 chipset. The invite also confirms that the Realme U1 will be an Amazon exclusive product. Much like the Realme 2 Pro, the Realme U1 will sport a waterdrop notch.
The new U series from Realme will most likely see phones with impressive selfie cameras. This was bound to happen considering the brand comes from Oppo, which has been known for selfie-focussed phones for years now. The invite does not mention anything specific about the selfie camera, but the company is teasing some smart AI capabilities with the help of the new Helio P70 chipset. The dedicated Amazon India page also reveals that the chipset will offer features like high-resolution depth engine, faster multi-frame noise reduction shot, anti-blooming engine and accurate AI scene detection.
The Realme U1 will also get a waterdop notch similar to the Realme 2 Pro. This means you can expect a large, edge-to-edge display with a big screen-to-body ratio. As of now, the exact specifications of the display is still unknown. The Realme U1 will be the first phone ever to run the latest Helio P70 chipset. The mid-range octa-core chipset from MediaTek is based on a 12nm FinFET process and promises to deliver a 13 per cent boost in performance over its predecessor. The processor also brings an enhanced AI engine with up to 30 per cent improvement in AI processing over the Helio P60.
It will be interesting to see how the new Helio P70 chipset competes against the Snapdragon 660 SoC that powers the Realme 2 Pro. As for the pricing, the Realme U1 could slot above the Realme 2 Pro so expect a price tag higher than Rs 13,990. Realme recently hiked the prices of a couple of its phones due to the weakening rupee, so we will have to wait and see whether this will affect the pricing of the Realme U1 as well.
