Plenty of Red Dead Redemption 2 players have likely seen Arthur Morgan when he is underweight, but is it possible to give the character so much food that he becomes fat?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game of many systems, some of them made obvious to the player and others operating behind the scenes. It’s likely why the game has received so many glowing reviews but it may also confuse those who are trying to understand how certain things work. For example, Arthur’s weight has a stat but it is never explained how to influence that stat or whether it will change the character’s physical appearance.
Most likely, Red Dead Redemption 2 players have checked on Arthur Morgan’s stats and seen that he is underweight. It doesn’t seem to matter if they have regularly consumed food or if Arthur’s cores are full, there will simply be times where the stat says underweight. But if Arthur can be underweight, is it possible for him to be overweight?
Luckily, plenty of players have sought out to answer that question and it turns out even just getting Arthur overweight is a chore. No matter how much food Arthur consumed and how often he slept, there is nothing about his outward appearance that suggested becoming fat or overweight. Arthur’s hair and beard grew to great lengths, however, so the game was acknowledging the passage of time. But Arthur doesn’t become fat.
While this may have been a mystery at first, it turns out it is a lot simpler to make Arthur Morgan overweight and it is possible. All players need to do is eat food and then rest by using the kneel option (holding triangle/Y). Continuing to do this should increase Arthur’s weight until it says overweight.
More importantly, overweight Arthur Morgan does have a slightly different look, but it is a far cry from fat. Presumably, Rockstar Games wanted to preserve the tone of Red Dead Redemption 2, which is somber and contemplative, by preventing players from turning Arthur into a butterball.
It’s a bit strange, though, considering that players can grow out Arthur’s beard and hair to make him look like a mountain man. Why not let everyone’s Arthur look completely different?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
