Democrat Dan Seibert faced Griffin in the Nov. 6 election.
VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI — Voters have elected incumbent Republican State Rep. Beth Griffin to serve the 66th District in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Democrat Dan Seibert faced Griffin in the Nov. 6 election for the 66th District, encompassing all of Van Buren County and the city of Parchment, Alamo Township and Cooper Township in Kalamazoo County.
The Associated Press declared Griffin the winner in the early morning of Nov. 7.
She received 16,428 votes compared to 12,057 votes for Seibert, with about 90 percent of precincts reporting, according to unofficial election results. It is not clear if absentee votes are counted in the totals at this time.
Griffin will serve a two-year term.
Griffin was elected to her first term in 2016 and announced her re-election bid in March. She has served the 66th District since 2016. She served as a Van Buren County Commissioner prior to her election to the representative seat.
She has worked as a teacher in Parchment Middle School and is an owner of Premco Finance. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, Indiana, and a master’s degree in education from Old Dominion University.
Seibert, a Paw resident, entered the race in January of this year. Seibert grew up in Midland before graduating from Western Michigan University with a degree in computer engineering. He worked as a system administrator for Cole Automotive Group and is now a systems engineer at Perrigo in Allegan.
