Google’s incredible ‘Night Sight’ mode that debuted in the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL was arguably the most talked about camera-centric feature to appear on smartphones this year. Before the Night Sight mode appeared Huawei and Honor devices boasted of the best long exposure photography capabilities on smartphones. While I still believe that Huawei’s implementation of the low light mode results in images with better details, in my tests, I have observed that the ‘Night Sight’ mode almost always ends up capturing a brighter photo – which the masses generally prefer.
Other manufacturers have also attempted to come up with their own versions of low light long exposure imaging modes. For example, OnePlus has the ‘Nightscape’ mode while Xiaomi calls it the “Night Scene” mode. While these modes are good to have none of them really match up to Huawei and Google’s implementations which I believe to be among the best in the smartphone space as of now.
