Seven months after the historic summit in Singapore between President Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, Pyongyang has still not given up its nuclear weapons. But the fact that Kim is willing to denuclearize constitutes a historic diplomatic breakthrough.
Compare relations between the countries today with the year leading up to the summit. North Korea had conducted a series of provocative ballistic missile and nuclear tests. The two leaders had exchanged personal insults and official threats. There was serious discussion of the possibility — even probability — of nuclear conflict.
Now Kim says he will meet with Trump at any time to push the peace process forward.
