Cody Parkey accepted an invitation to appear on NBC’s “Today” show last Friday to discuss his game-ending missed field goal against the Eagles, which hit the upright and crossbar on its way to the ground. Bears coach Matt Nagy and GM Ryan Pace said Monday they considered his motivations selfish.
Robbie Gould, Jason Myers and Stephen Gostkowski head the list of kickers who will be available in free agency, barring contract extensions before the signing period in March.
The upcoming draft class features an intriguing group of kickers, headed by LSU’s Cole Tracy, Oklahoma’s Austin Seibert, San Diego State’s John Baron III, Utah’s Matt Gay, Georgia’s Rodrigo Blankenship and Notre Dame’s Justin Yoon.
This is worth filing away if you’re a Chicago Bears’ fan.
Cody Parkey clearly upset team management with his appearance on NBC’s “Today’’ show last Friday — not to mention the missed field goal in the Bears’ playoff loss to the Eagles, which prompted the invitation to speak on the show.
“For me, you understand that we always talk about a ‘we’ and not a ‘me’ thing, and we always talk as a team, we win as a team, we lose as a team,” Bears coach Matt Nagy said at a Monday news briefing. “I didn’t necessarily think that was too much of a ‘we’ thing.”
Parkey, in the first year of a four-year contract, was having a disappointing season before the double-doink miss that sealed the 16-15 loss.
