The risk of pancreatic cancer increases with age, with most people diagnosed after age 65, according to the Mayo Clinic.
It’s a disease that is a tough one to fight, because pancreatic cancer often spreads quickly to other organs. Alex Trebek, the longtime host of “Jeopardy!”, announced Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. In good spirits, the 78-year-old Trebek said “I plan to beat it.’”
It’s possible to win such a battle against the formidable disease, but the road ahead will be tough. Trebek acknowledged on YouTube that the prognosis is typically not very encouraging for people with his condition.
