Joshua Ortiz knew he was ready to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Valeri Santa Cruz of Trenton, but he didn’t know what to do for the big moment.
Should he plan a flash mob? Create a fake movie trailer? Or present her with a box of pizza with the words, “Will you marry me?”
Then Ortiz, a 30-year-old filmmaker from Orlando, came up a plan he thought would be perfect for his 22-year-old composer girlfriend: He would propose to her at Detroit Symphony Orchestra and get the whole thing on video.
After numerous calls and emails, Ortiz finally connected with the DSO, and they created a fake networking event for young musicians on March 10 at Orchestra Hall. After a few days, Santa Cruz and a friend RSVP’d for the event.
However, the networking event was “canceled,” but Santa Cruz and her friend were still able to take a tour of the building.
