The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S is the phone that replaces the Redmi Note 7 in the Indian market. It comes with a new 48-megapixel rear camera and a price tag of Rs 10,999? Is it worth extra Rs 1,000? We find out in this Redmi Note 7S review.
Xiaomi usually launches two phones under its Redmi Note series every year. This has been the case for the last few years for now. But this time, it is different. Probably because pushed by tough competition from brands like Realme, Samsung, Asus, Xiaomi is moving faster this year. This move fast approach is seemingly behind the new Redmi Note 7 phone that the company launched just a week ago in India. This new phone is the Redmi Note 7S, launched last week at a price of Rs 10,999. The launch also came as a surprise to many, for the Note 7S replaces the Note 7 in the company’s line-up.
There is a limit to how fast you can move, though. While the Note 7S is a new Xiaomi Note, at its core it is still mostly Redmi Note 7, a phone that was launched around 4 months ago in India. In other words, the Redmi Note 7S is the Redmi Note 7 with better back cameras.
Over here at India Today Tech we reviewed the Redmi Note 7 earlier this year and we liked the phone. I had written: “The Redmi Note 7 is one of the best under Rs 10,000”. Given that the Note 7 was such a good phone — was because it has been discontinued now — the Redmi Note 7S is equally capable. The key question then is not whether the Note 7 is a nice phone or not. The question is: Is it a phone that is worth extra Rs 1000 or not? Is the new 48-megapixel camera in the Redmi Note 7S better than the 13-megapixel shooter that we got in the Redmi Note 7 or not?
The Redmi Note 7S looks exactly the same as the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro. And it too comes with gradient finish and glass body. Similar to the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the all new Redmi Note 7S also follows Xiaomi’s “Aura Design” philosophy. If you have read the India Today Tech review of the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Redmi Note 7, you’ll know that the design style used by Xiaomi’s in this year’s Note phones is impressive and delectable. When I reviewed the Note 7 Pro and the Note 7 earlier, I loved the way they look. I feel the same about the Redmi Note 7S. The Redmi Note 7S sports a clean design and the minimal bezels while the dot drop notch adds up to the overall looks.
The Note 7S is available in India in several vibrant colours. It comes in three funky colours: Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue and Onxy Black. In this review, the Sapphire Blue Colour is what you see in the images. And I must say that it is one of the most beautiful phones you can find under Rs 20,000.
