Secure messaging app Signal has just launched a very important feature to help protect the identities of those protesting the death of George Floyd. In a blog published on June 3, Signal said users can now blur faces out of photos—a crucial tool to help yourself and others remain anonymous as protests continue across the globe.
The very nature of the protests means much of the evidence is being collected via photos and videos taken by citizens. But when you share photos, it makes sense to obscure the faces of other protesters to both protect their privacy and prevent them being identified and possibly charged later on.
