New one-day high for coronavirus cases as U. S. is ‘still chasing the virus’

The 259,848 coronavirus cases reported on Saturday around the globe was the highest daily count yet, according to the World Health Organization.
The nearly 1.5 million global cases recorded this week was a new one-week high for the pandemic. Overall, more than 14.3 million people have been infected, and more than 600,000 people have died.
“A handful of countries that put policies into place — policies that have been clearly communicated and well-implemented and enforced — these countries have been able to control this virus and get ahead of it,” said William Schaffner, an infectious diseases expert at Vanderbilt University.
