Stimulus Bill Might Not Pass Until August. Is That Too Late For Schools?

Schools need money now.
Schools, school districts, and colleges and universities are preparing to reopen and bring students back to campus for the fall semester. Education across the board needs money to reopen safely. Congress is expected to provide some money in the next coronavirus relief package, but it might not get to schools quickly enough.
Many have expected Congress to pass the next stimulus bill by the end of the month, as the enhanced unemployment benefits from the CARES Act expire then. But new reporting puts some doubt in that theory, indicating that the next stimulus legislation might not pass until August.
Republicans and Democrats have reportedly done little negotiating at this point, making it difficult to see how a deal can be reached in two weeks. The House of Representatives is set to leave for recess on July 31st, but according to reports, members have been told to plan to stick around, hinting that it might take longer to reach a deal. The Senate is scheduled to leave for recess the following week on August 7th.
While that might not seem like enough time to make much of a difference, it could for schools.
