“The Voice” judge and former No Doubt singer released her first new, non-holiday solo single in five years on Monday.
After teasing fans with a forthcoming surprise last week on her social media accounts, Gwen Stefani dropped a brand new single, “Let Me Reintroduce Myself,” on Monday morning. The 51-year-old singer-songwriter, “The Voice” judge and frontwoman of Anaheim’s No Doubt told us during an interview earlier this year that she’d been working on new music during the pandemic. “I’ve been doing a lot of songwriting lately,” Stefani said during a phone interview over the summer as we discussed the 25th anniversary of No Doubt’s 1995 breakthrough album, “Tragic Kingdom.” “I have been reflecting a lot on the older songs because back then, I didn’t really have the kind of songwriting support I have now. My biggest problem is organizing myself and trying to get finished with the song.” “Let Me Reintroduce Myself” is a catchy reggae/ska-saturated song reminiscent of the early days of No Doubt, complete with horns and the addition of a flamenco-style guitar and Stefani’s playful lyrical content. The song features Stefani’s brother, Eric, on keys. He’s the one who encouraged Stefani to be in No Doubt in the first place, though he exited before “Tragic Kingdom” became a hit.
