NBA Games Today: Will US Capitol Riots Suspend League Play?

While riots rage in Washington D.C., it’s questionable if NBA games will continue on as scheduled on January 6, 2021.

As President Donald Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and somehow made it into the chambers of both the U.S. Senate and House, NBA fans are wondering if Wednesday’s game will continue as scheduled. At the U.S. Capitol building, a woman was shot in the neck, injuries to Capitol Police officers, reports of suspicious packages, while Vice President Mike Pence and numerous members of Congress needed to be rushed to safety. It’s an absolutely devastating scene in Washington and despite the fact that no games are scheduled in D.C. on Wednesday, as the Wizards will be in Philadelphia playing the Sixers tonight, it’s questionable if players will want to play amid this national siege. Just before 5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted: “After the rioting and attack on democracy in Washington today, there’s been no formal discussion between the NBA and NBPA on postponing any of the league’s 11 games tonight, sources tell ESPN.
