Detroit COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to 50+ with chronic medical conditions, hits 100,000th dose given

Detroiters 50+ with chronic medical conditions can get COVID-19 appointment at TCF Center or Senior Saturdays clinics. City hits 100,000th dose given mark.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said Thursday that he is expanding COVID-19 vaccines to city residents age 50 and older with chronic medical conditions, mirroring a similar announcement made by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Wednesday. The city also has administered its 100,000th vaccine dose since its first inoculations began right before Christmas, Duggan said. The 100,000-plus doses reflect all administered first and second dose shots at the mass drive-thru vaccination clinic in the TCF Center garage and at all city health department outreach locations, such as Senior Saturday clinics and homeless shelters, officials said in a release. “Administering a hundred thousand doses of this life-saving vaccine is a major accomplishment. What this means is that more lives are going to be saved,” Denise Fair, the city’s chief public health officer, said during a briefing Thursday. “The road ahead is a long one.
