A detention officer at the Sampson County jail was shot on her lunch hour Tuesday, and the suspected gunman was later arrested, authorities said.
Clinton, N.C. — A 19-year-old was arrested after a detention officer at the Sampson County jail was shot on her lunch hour Tuesday, authorities said. Deputies responding to a reported shooting at 93 Waterhouse Circle in Clinton at about 1 p.m. found Zarya Ashley wounded inside the home. She was airlifted to an undisclosed hospital, where she was in critical condition, authorities said.
