New codes spotted in the latest beta version of Google Play Services hint that the company might be looking to establish a crowdsourced network for location tracking.
Google is reportedly working on a crowdsourced network to locate its devices, much like Apple’s Find My network. The ability will allow Android users to gain the precise location of their or another’s Android device in case it gets lost or stolen. The speculation arises from a new code spotted in the latest version of Google Play Services. The findings suggest that Google will make use of Google Play Services on Android devices to create this useful network and enable it for location tracking. The code has been spotted by XDA Developers in Google Play Services version 21.24.13 that rolled out for beta users on Thursday. It was found to contain strings clearly mentioning the name and functionality of the upcoming feature.
