Ring Starts Rolling Out End-to-End Encryption Worldwide

Amazon’s home security company is expanding the availability of end-to-end encryption outside the U.S.
Ring announced that its video end-to-end encryption support is starting to roll out worldwide after debuting as a technical preview in the U.S. in January. The company also introduced support for other authentication methods and made it easier for Ring owners to sell their devices without relying on the company’s support staff. There are some caveats. Ring said that “various factors may impact availability, including applicable laws,” which means the feature “may not be available in some areas.” But at time of writing the company doesn’t appear to have provided a list of the areas that won’t offer video end-to-end encryption anywhere on its website. Ring also said the feature isn’t supported by its battery-powered video doorbells and cameras; it didn’t say why.
